CNN —House conservatives revolted against GOP leadership and defeated a FISA rule vote on the floor Wednesday, the latest blow to Speaker Mike Johnson that comes after former President Donald Trump called on Republicans to kill the bill. “KILL FISA,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. Johnson told members at a closed-door conference meeting Wednesday morning that he spoke with Trump Tuesday night. But, according to members, Johnson told them they didn’t discuss FISA. CNN —The federal judge overseeing the election subversion case against former President Donald Trump in Washington, DC, was the victim of a swatting call on her home late Sunday night, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. The source told CNN that a male caller said he had shot his girlfriend and would kill himself. The address the caller provided on the call was federal Judge Tanya Chutkan’s. CNN reported in August that security for Chutkan was increased in the days after Trump’s indictment in the election subversion case in DC and the judge was assigned the case. The federal election interference case is a result of special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into alleged efforts by the former president and his allies to overturn the 2020 election.

The state party had just instituted the pledge requirement in May. Trump and DeSantis have a particularly fierce rivalry in their shared home state of Florida. The oath requirement would have forced primary candidates to back the eventual nominee in order to get placed on the ballot. Former state GOP chairman and state Sen. Joe Gruters asked that the requirement be removed during a party meeting Friday. Gruters is a longtime Trump supporter and is one of the few Republican Florida lawmakers to back the former president over DeSantis.

A Florida GOP rep who backed the state's slavery curriculum is helping open a Black history museum. He's on a task force in charge of including the history of slavery in the state in the new museum. Ron DeSantis last week and will help plan the building and operation of the Florida Museum of Black History, according to Bay News 9. Now, Jacques will be a key member in opening the state's first museum to honor Black history. "My main task on this task force is emphasize that Black history is part of American history," Jacques said, Bay News 9 reported.

DeSantis' campaign has clearly struggled early on. Rep. Byron Donalds, another former DeSantis ally who also endorsed Trump, said he knew that DeSantis just didn't excel at building relationships. A representative for DeSantis' campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

An ex-Florida lawmaker told WaPo that many in Tallahassee are "terrified" of DeSantis and his team. "There's no inner circle because they just chop off heads and move on," the former lawmaker said. This year, boosted by a GOP supermajority, DeSantis ramped up his conservative policymaking agenda. DeSantis has earned the endorsements of 100 of the 113 Republican state lawmakers in Florida, with 12 remaining neutral and only one backing former President Donald Trump.
